A Pennsylvania developer needed an upscale makeover for his commercial lot, and he called on us at Shearon Environmental Design.

Our team of Certified Landscape Architects began by creating a custom planting plan to maximize curb appeal and budget parameters.

Since our construction projects are run with Shearon-owned equipment and certified employee operators, we delivered a safe and worry-free process.

Our team excavated over 200 cubic yards of asphalt and subsoil in multiple locations. After preparing the site, we installed Belgian block curbing.This popular material lends the area an instant aesthetic boost, enticing desirable tenants and shoppers.

Next our workers planted a variety of trees, shrubs, grasses and perennials accented with decorative stone. The 11 finished islands, completed in a timeframe of under 3 weeks, greatly enhance the appeal of the plaza from the road as well as the common walkways.

Shearon Environmental Design was invited to cooperate with D3 Real Estate Development to bring to life this urban oasis in the heart of historic Philadelphia. Throughout the transformation, we provided streamlined communication and seamless transition between project phases.

Our design team, headed by certified landscape architects, began with a comprehensive review of the supplied shop drawings. Shearon’s recommendations were adopted in order to provide the project with optimal functionality and value.

Next our construction crew set to work on the excavation, grading and remediation of the area. Shearon’s ICPI certified hardscape craftsmen built the walkways, curbs and riverstone aprons. The highlight of this phase was installation of a custom bluestone terrace, which would add a lovely focal point as well as an inviting social space.

Completing the design Shearon’s professional landscape team planted a carefully chosen blend of greenery. Our selection of predominately native perennials paired with river birch and dogwood would ensure that this hardy landscape will deliver year-round beauty and delight residents for years to come.

Shearon Environmental Design is pleased to be expanding our relationship with the Central Bucks Athletic Association (CBAA) at the Herbst Field Complex. Though we’ve maintained the 30-acre athletic complex for some time, this was the first collaboration between Shearon Sports and Shearon Civil Engineering for CBAA.

Tailored to the evolving needs of the organization, the Master Plan was designed to maximize the flexibility and playability of the Herbst Field Complex. This Master Plan was refined by our in-house Landscape Architects and Civil Engineers to comply with Township, County and State regulations. The focus for the 2017 phase was creating versatility of use through renovation of the rear fields. Four fields on four separate planes were regraded to one plane. This allows the entire area to be utilized in a variety of field configurations.

To increase playability over one and a half miles of drainage pipe were installed along with a 26-zone irrigation system. Once on grade over 230,000 sq ft of sod was laid creating a professional playing surface that would be the envy of any high school or college Athletic Department.

From pee-wee to high school club teams, soccer to lacrosse, the athletes and coaches of the Central Bucks Athletic Association now enjoy the flexibility of the upgraded Herbst Field complex and the opportunity to configure their fields for any age, sport or tournament need.

Abington Friends School Paver Patio Installation – Abington, PA

We at Shearon Environmental Design are pleased to unveil one of our newest hardscape design/build projects, a paver patio for Abington Friends School.

When Abington Friends looked to us to design a new outdoor gathering space there were certain design concerns that needed to be addressed with that existing area of campus. There were drainage issues that had water pooling on the existing walkways during and after rain events which led to safety and usability concerns. Additionally, there were dated amenities and landscaping that were in need of rehabilitation.

Our team designed a usable space for outside gathering that had previously been missing at the school, as well as a new landscape design to complement the 1,424 square foot paver patio.  E.P. Henry 12”x12” Village Square Pavers were installed on a compacted stone base and sand leveling medium using ICPI (Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute) standards. There is an 18” high, 32 linear ft. long E.P. Henry Double-Sided Coventry Wall Block Wall with (2) 2’ x 2’ Coventry Wall Pillars to end each side of the wall.

The finished paver patio has now held countless gatherings of students, parents, and alumni, and is a highlight of our Design/Build ethos.

Archbishop John Carroll High School Synthetic Turf Baseball Field – Radnor, PA

When Cabrini University’s new baseball program needed a home and Archbishop John Carroll High School’s scheduled field renovations were set to begin, flexibility was paramount. Shearon adapted its planned natural turf renovation to accommodate the combined rigors of High School and D-III schedules and the result was a state-of-the-art Synthetic Turf field. An outside engineer’s plan called for a lengthy and costly relocation of 15,000 cubic yards of cut to be dumped offsite. Shearon’s forethought turned that drawback into an advantage by choosing instead to utilize that material to level out an adjacent multi-sport field, thus drastically reducing the cost of work on both fields.

After the area was on subgrade, the tiered Infiltration System of four underground basins went in the outfield below a 9,000-ton stone subbase. An additional 800 tons of choker layer was placed to ensure a smooth surface for the installation of the synthetic turf. While the stonebase was being constructed, Shearon’s team installed masonry dugouts, fencing (including 30’ fence and batters’ eye in the outfield), bullpens, batting cages, curbing, and retaining & seating walls. The project earned high praise from AJC HS President Frank Fox, who “would not hesitate to recommend Shearon Sports for any athletic field project.” 

 

 

 

Archbishop John Carroll High School Natural Turf Multi-Purpose Field – Radnor, PA

The multi-sport natural grass field at Archbishop Carroll has been in the Shearon Sports Master Plan for the campus for some time.  With the construction of the synthetic turf baseball field by Shearon Sports slated to start in the summer of 2016 it appeared that the grass field would have to wait.  However, our design teams forethought to utilize the excess cut from the new synthetic baseball field on the multi-sport field allowed for a cost savings by balancing the site and thus eliminatingthe hauling of the excess dirt off-site. This drastically lessened the cost of the grass field along with the synthetic turf field.  Additionally, this new fill on the multi-sport field would mitigate the poor subsoil and provide additional topsoil.  The repurposed 15,000 cubic yards of soil was cut, stockpiled, and moved to multi-sport field and was graded to provide the best possible playing surface.Drainage and irrigation were installed to keep the field playable in wet and dry conditions.  The final step for the field was grassing.  Tuckahoe Turf big roll athletic field bluegrass sod was selected for the playing surface and one hundred thousand square feet of sod was laid to create the finished product.

 

 

Ashland Meadows Basin for Toll Brothers – Perkasie, PA

Shearon Environmental Design is pleased to announce its newest green infrastructure project, a sediment basin conversion to a constructed wetland for Toll Brothers. Upon build out of the Ashland Meadows community in Perkasie, PA Shearon was contracted to convert the Sediment Basin, used during construction to trap sediment laden stormwater runoff, to its permanent condition as a Wetland Bottom Basin to comply with NPDES requirements. One thousand cubic yards of fill was imported and shaped onsite to create utilizing Shearon’s heavy equipment operators.  Additionally, meadow grasses, wetland plugs, and trees were planted to create a functioning wetland oasis consistent with a rural beauty of the surrounding area. The finished wetland bottom basin conversion shows Shearon Environmental Design’s continuing excellence in sustainable development and green infrastructure.

Phoenix Village Apartments Amenity Deck – Phoenixville, PA

Shearon Environmental Design is proud to unveil its newest specialty project: The Phoenix Village Amenity Deck.  This elevated community deck is suspended above a covered parking area and is comprised of multiple amenities for the community’s residents to enjoy. These include a bocce court, grill areas and outdoor kitchen, natural gas fire pit, movie screening area and a water feature.  Planters have been installed showcasing perennials to add natural beauty to the urban aesthetic of Phoenix Village.  Shearon Environmental worked closely with the project architect to balance the concerns over point source and distributed loading and the quality of the experience for the residents of the community.  The amenity deck at Phoenix Village will offer its residents a private retreat nestled within the vibrant neighborhood of Phoenixville.

The patios installed for a client on behalf of Pitcairn Properties mark a new level for Shearon’s design build capabilities. The Civil Engineering, including the design of a subsurface seepage bed for stormwater management, and the landscape design were both conducted by Shearon Environmental.  This ‘insourcing’ allowed for a seamless transition from the design through to the construction of the patios.

These patios include tensile fabric shade structures to provide an area of shady relief for outdoor meetings or casual relaxation. Shearon Environmental was not only able deliver the project on time and on budget but also was able provide the best quality product to the client in keeping with our ethos of Quality-Consistency-Efficiency.

Sora Pool Club for Post Brothers at Presidential City Apartments – Philadelphia, PA

Shearon Environmental Design is proud to unveil its newest specialty project: The Sora Pool Club for Post Brothers at Presidential City Apartments in Philadelphia, PA. Starting with the total demolition of the existing pools and infrastructure in 2014, Shearon helped Post Brothers transform the area into a new layout in 2015. Shearon installed a new stormwater system, as well as a 12,000 sq.ft. infiltration basin, including all new drainage structures and tie-ins. We also completed excavation work and concrete pours for all new retaining walls including the featured foundation walls. Shearon was able to construct four reflecting pools on the property. The entire site was graded for all new features including pool decks, bocce courts, parking lots, as well as outdoor living areas. Once the construction phase was complete, landscaping design work began for the newly renovated apartment buildings. The landscape phase included tree work, fine grading and sod, new plantings, a dog park and irrigation installation as part of the total site renovation.
