For over a decade, Shearon has proudly maintained the landscape at the headquarters of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in Princeton, New Jersey. Working in collaboration with the Foundation, we developed a comprehensive Landscape Master Plan to enhance the outdoor spaces surrounding the facility, reflecting the Foundation’s vision and values. Our commitment to excellence is evident in every aspect of our work.

We began by thoughtfully redesigning the entrance to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation building, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Working alongside project engineers who were reworking the walkway from the parking area to the front door, our skilled team incorporated lush native plantings and vibrant flowers, creating a welcoming environment that greets visitors as they arrive.

Within the foundation’s grounds, we designed and built two versatile courtyards. The first courtyard serves as a dining area just outside the cafeteria, featuring a spacious paver courtyard with tables, umbrellas, a seating wall, and benches for informal gatherings. To add a touch of tranquility, we included a pondless water feature and a synthetic turf area that can be used for outdoor games or as a putting green.

The second courtyard, expanded from the existing space, offers flexibility for dining, meetings, and company functions. We seamlessly integrated existing trees, including the transplantation of a prized Japanese Maple, which beautifully accentuates a soothing water feature within the space.

Adjacent to the courtyard, we constructed a raised vegetable garden, aligning with the Foundation’s mission of promoting sustainability. This garden not only showcases our commitment to health and wellness but also supplies fresh produce for the Foundation’s cafeteria. Bursting with vibrant and nutritious plants, it serves as a testament to our dedication to fostering a healthier world.

Completing the Landscape Master Plan, we strategically added accent plantings throughout the campus. These plantings serve multiple purposes, including highlighting the Foundation’s signage, screening objectionable views, and introducing touches of color throughout the campus. Each planting was carefully chosen to harmonize with the surroundings, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal.

At Shearon Environmental Design, we firmly believe in the transformative power of landscapes and hardscapes. Our projects at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation exemplify our unwavering commitment to excellence. From the inviting entrance to the serene courtyards, functional vegetable garden, and thoughtfully planned accent plantings, our work speaks volumes about our dedication to creating exceptional outdoor spaces that inspire and nurture well-being.
